Every bitcoin wallet has a different reusable payment code, and to make things easier this payment code is translated into an easier human readable name, called a PayNym, and given a unique avatar bot . This makes it easier to share with friends and contacts.
¶ What can my PayNym be used for?
¶ Receive bitcoin directly to your PayNym:
Problem:With any bitcoin wallet, when you want to receive bitcoin you need to generate a new address and provide it to the sending party. Of course the sending party could re-use an address which you provided to them previously, but this is bad for your and the sending party's privacy!
Solution:Instead, by sharing your PayNym with the sending party just one time, they can send as many payments to you as they want, and every time bitcoin will be received to a new address controlled by your wallet. This is ideal for repeat payments and donations.
¶ Send, receive, & collaborate in coinjoin transactions
Using your PayNym you can send, receive, and collaborate in three different types of bitcoin coinjoin transactions all with the purpose of improving your on-chain privacy. These are called "Cahoots" transactions:

¶ Share your PayNym

Tap your PayNym Bot in the top left corner of the screen

Tap your PayNym name to open the PayNym screen
- Tap share
- Have your PayNym contact scan the QR code with their bitcoin wallet software.
Alternatively:
- Tap your Reusable Payment Code starting PM8T, copy to clipboard, and share with your PayNym contact using a different (out-of-bounds) method.
¶ Follow a PayNym
Just like others can follow your PayNym, you can follow others too. PayNyms who you follow will be saved in your FOLLOWING tab.
To send, receive, or collaborate in Cahoots transaction, you only need to FOLLOW.

Navigate to the PayNym screen

Tap on the FOLLOWERS tab

Tap on the PayNym name (in this example +fragrantbar190)
- Tap FOLLOW
The PayNym will now be added to your FOLLOWING tab.
¶ Add PayNym manually

Navigate to the PayNym screen

Tap the floating action button
- Tap SCAN QR CODE
or
Paste Payment Code to load a PayNym profile - Tap FOLLOW to add this PayNym to your list of followed Nyms.
The PayNym will now be added to your FOLLOWING tab.
¶ Connect to a PayNym
To make direct payments to another PayNym (without sending with cahoots transactions), after following you must also CONNECT. This connection transaction is what facilitates the information sharing between the two wallets and enables you to send bitcoin to a new address controlled by their wallet without any prior interaction.
The connection transaction costs 0.00015 BTC / 15,000 sats plus miner fees.

Navigate to the PayNym profile you wish to connect with

Tap CONNECT
- Read the popup, then tap OK, CONNECT
The following toast popup confirms the "CONNECT" notification transaction has been broadcast to the bitcoin network.
Note: You can spend directly to the PayNym after the connection transaction has 1 on-chain confirmation.
¶ Look up PayNym in directory
All PayNyms which have been claimed are registered on PayNym.is
If you know the PayNym name, you can look it up by adding it to the end of the URL, for example: PayNym.is/+springtruth797
From a PayNym profile in the PayNym directory web page, you can:

Scan the PayNym QR code

Copy to clipboard the Reusable Payment Code starting PM8T...

If viewing on mobile, tap OPEN IN WALLET to open the PayNym profile in the Samourai Wallet app
¶ Add nickname to a PayNym you follow

Navigate to the PayNym screen

Tap on the PayNym name for which you want to add a nickname

Tap in the top right corner

Type a nickname into the "Label" field
TIP: we recommend adding the nickname to the front of the PayNym name (as below)

Tap SAVE

Tap the back button to navigate back to the PayNym screen, then refresh the screen by pulling down from the top
Note: Nicknames are saved locally on your device only.
¶ Sign a message with your PayNym
Each reusable payment code / PayNym has their own notification address. This is the address which other PayNyms spend to when broadcasting the notification transaction to CONNECT to your PayNym.
Within Samourai Wallet you can sign a message using the private key of your notification address. This allows you to cryptographically prove you are in control of the notification address, and therefore are in control of the associated bitcoin wallet for which the reusable payment code / PayNym is associated with. The steps to do this are as follows:

Navigate to the PayNym screen

Tap in the top right corner

Tap Sign message

Tap YES
or
Type a custom message, then tap YES
- Tap to COPY the signed message to your clipboard.
